Very good article on tattoos in the workplace.

Opinions about body art have grown as diverse as the images themselves. From snowflakes to swastikas, some people see self-absorption where others see self-empowerment. And others don’t burden themselves with what it all means — they simply wanted their dead dog immortalized on their thigh. People with tattoos interviewed for this article said they wished society was less prejudiced about them. At the same time, the abnormality can be part of the allure.

BAD BOY BEAUTY: SO I GOT A FACE TATTOO

Very interesting article where the author gets a temporary face tattoo and writes about the experience.

Some notable reactions were as follows: Guys my age really dug the ink, I even got a couple of bro-ish nods of approval by fratty dudes as well as a couple of heavily tattooed guys. Moms with small children were NOT having it. They would notice the ink and immediately grab their kids by the hand and drag them away from me.
I can’t really decide if that shocks me or not. I’m just a guy with face tats in a grocery store, holding a basket filled with raw chicken and beer. I’m not here to turn your baby into a member of a biker gang. And face tat or not, I’m somebody’s kid, too! Rude.

Tattoo removal expert has a warning: Just don’t do it!

Yet another article about tattoo removal where false information is being spread.

Let’s say you are living in the moment, feeling giddy — a little tipsy, maybe — and you decide to go for it. You decide to get that tattoo.
Dr. Suzanne Kilmer has a warning for you: Think twice before acting. Not only do you face five times the risk of contracting hepatitis C, chances are you’ll change your mind about whether you like your tattoo before you reach middle age.

Recent studies have shown a correlation between tattoos and hep C, but also stated that the risks were much lower in a professional shop. The data showed that people with hepatitis were 5x more likely to have tattoos, not the other way around like she stated.

There is also no data to support her statement that “chances are you’ll change your mind about whether you like your tattoo before you reach middle age.”

Most people don’t associate tattoos with fine art. But as more art school graduates end up in tattoo shops, the body art is increasingly influenced by artists from Jackson Pollock to Helen Frankenthaler.

Nice article about fine art tattoos. Thanks to Tom, a reader of my blog, for bringing it to my attention. The comments quickly filled with the typical and predictable rants from people with little knowledge of tattoos.

Employees Get Tattoo of Company Logo For Pay Raise

A New York-based real estate firm Rapid Realty has offered its 800 employees a 15% pay raise if they tattoo the company’s logo onto their bodies, and the offer is snowballing, according to CBS New York. So far, nearly 40 employees accepted the challenge, AOL Jobs reported.

President Obama to daughters: If you get a tattoo, I’m getting one too

“What we’ve said to the girls is, ‘If you guys ever decide you’re going to get a tattoo, then mommy and me will get the exact same tattoo. In the same place,’” Obama said with a smile. “And we’ll go on YouTube and show it off as a family tattoo.”

I have to declare this the winner of the biggest tattoo related non-news story to top the headlines this week. I have ignored this headline for days because I don’t really feel like it is newsworthy, but I can’t avoid it any longer.

I would honestly love to see the girls call his bluff on this and go out and get tattooed. There is no way that Barack and Michelle would follow through on their little attempt at reverse psychology. And this is the type of parenting that can cause a rebellious child to run out and get a shiny new Romney face tattoo just to prove a point.
